It was a day of heartbreak for two local wrestling teams at the State Duals in Macon.
In Class 4A, the Heritage Generals rebounded from Thursday's quarterfinal loss to West Laurens by beating Baldwin, 66-13, in a consolation bracket match.
However, facing private school power Marist in the next elimination match, the Generals were sent home with a heartbreaking 38-37 loss to the War Eagles.
Heritage finished in the top eight of the 16-team bracket.
The two teams expected to battle for first place in the classification will indeed clash on Saturday. Jefferson took out West Laurens, 50-24, in one semifinal match, while Gilmer survived a scare from Troup, 32-27.
In Class 1A, Gordon Lee was relegated to the consolation bracket after a 40-39 loss to Irwin County.
The Trojans are still alive in the eight-team field. They will face Strong Rock Christian in their next match on Saturday. The winner of that match will take on Trion for the right to wrestle in the third place match.
Trion was knocked out of the championship match with a 37-36 loss to Wesleyan in the semifinals on Friday. Wesleyan will take on heavily-favored Commerce in the championship match on Saturday. The Tigers whipped Irwin County, 61-9.
The finals are now set in all classifications. In Class 2A, Social Circle will wrestle against Toombs County, while Bremen will face North Hall for the 3A state title.
Class 5A will see Buford wrestle against Ola. Alexander will square off with Richmond Hill in Class 6A, while heavyweights Archer and Camden County will match up in Class 7A.
