It took a little longer than expected, but that elusive first win of the 2017 season finally arrived for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats this past Friday (Oct. 13) as they picked up a hard-fought 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 victory at The Crown College in Powell, Tenn.
Jamese Miller and Anna Schorle paced the offense with five kills apiece. Miller also had four blocks, while Schorle blocked five shots, served up two aces and collected three digs.
Tori Hall came through with four kills, 10 digs and an ace. Kayleigh Goff had a solid night with three kills, three aces, four digs and a block. Morgen Simmons had a team-high 13 digs to go with a kill and three aces.
Also contributing in the win was Shanna Burk (9 digs, 5 assists, 1 kill), Jesse Owens (3 digs, 1 ace), Mia Clark (4 assists, 2 kills, 1 dig) and Kaylin Graham (2 digs).
The Lady Bobcats (1-14) will head to Cleveland State on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match against the Lady Cougars. They will be back at home at the Rossville Athletic Center on Saturday for their annual Pink Games. This year will feature a tri-match with Pensacola Christian College out of Florida and Andrew College from Cuthbert, Ga., starting at 1 p.m.
All donations and money raised during the event will go to benefit the Mary Ellen Locher Cancer Center of Chattanooga.
