Region 6-AAAA play began for the undefeated LaFayette Ramblers on Tuesday, but after five straight match wins to start the season, the Orange-and-Black finally tasted defeat as they dropped a narrow 3-2 decision at Southeast Whitfield.
Jarrod Sitton and Isaiah Southern won their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Sitton claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win, while Southern cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
But the Raiders would grab the win at No. 3 singles as Jac Curole was beaten by a 6-3, 6-4 count and they would go on to win the two doubles matches. Andrew Long and Jonah Hobbs fell by scores of 6-4, 6-3, while Damian Brown and Tyler Massingill lost 6-3, 6-3.
In one-set exhibition matches, Long won 6-3, while Dylan Parker dropped a 9-7 decision. The team of Ben Maanum and Anthony Collins lost by a count of 8-2.
LaFayette is now 5-1 on the year and 0-1 in region play.
Meanwhile, the Lady Ramblers found the Southeast courts to their liking as they shut out the Lady Raiders, 5-0.
S.J. Oxford won 6-2, 6-1, while Micaela Hobbs picked up a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Gracie Hamilton would win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (4) and in doubles, Lauren Torbett and Aubrey Steadman won 6-4, 6-2, while Emma Richardson and LaTyah Barber rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Megan Torbett won 6-0 in an exhibition singles match, while the team of Caylee Purcell and Greenlee Fountain won 8-1 in exhibition doubles.
The Lady Ramblers are now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in 6-AAAA play.
LaFayette will be back at home on Thursday to face Pickens in another region match.
