Seniors Gracey Kruse and Canaan Burnett both belted homers and the Lady Trojans got nine runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 12-1, five-inning victory over North Cobb Christian on Senior Night in Chickamauga on Monday.
Gordon Lee (21-3, 9-0) led 3-1 going into the last of the fourth when the wheels fell off for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Trojans pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of six NCCS errors.
Kruse and Burnett were both 2-for-3 with two RBI. Janie Durham was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Faith Alexander drew a walk and scored once, while Katherine Grace McElhaney went 1-for-2.
Emma Minghini was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Paxton Grimes was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Reagan Thompson knocked in two runs.
Burnett got the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Gordon Lee, now the No. 1-ranked Class A Pubic School team in the state by ScoreAtlanta, will host a game on Wednesday in the Region 6-A tournament. Their opponent and the time of the game was unknown as of press time.
The Lady Trojans are also the current No. 1-ranked Class A Public School team in the GHSA power rankings with 16.01 points. The rest of the top five include Wilcox County (15.07), Bowdon (14.51), Georgia Military College (13.06) and Baconton (13.05).
