The Ridgeland Lady Panthers traveled to Atlanta for the opening round of the Class 4A state softball tournament on Tuesday, but returned home with a pair of losses to No. 6-ranked Marist, ending their season with a 17-14 overall record.
In the opener, Ciera Foster had the only hit for Ridgeland as they dropped a 12-0 decision in five innings. Maddie Williams took the loss in the circle for the Lady Panthers.
In the day's second game, Ridgeland matched the War Eagles with eight hits apiece. However, a six-run fifth inning by Marist proved to be too much to overcome as the home team - playing as the visitors in Game 2 - scored a 9-3, series-clinching victory.
Eight different players had hits for Ridgeland. Jenna Morgan continued her late-season offensive push with another home run - a solo shot. Kiera Foster had a triple, while Grayson James and Dasia Watkins both doubled. Ciera Foster was credited with the Lady Panthers lone RBI. Bryanna Goldsmith was saddled with the loss in the circle.
