The Ridgeland Panthers' soccer team got its season off on the right foot with a 2-1 victory at Coosa on Tuesday night.
Rubin Livarchuk scored at the end of the first half for Ridgeland, while Juan Velazquez scored the game-winner in the second half.
"It was a team effort that included player of the game performances from a handful guys," head coach Tim Sparks said. "Oliver Holden, Bode Tucker, Conner Middleton and Jacob Keeton kept Coosa at bay all night and didn’t allow their offense to get many good chances. Dee Bautista, Angel Ojeda, Velazquez and Livarchuk were tenacious in attack, threatening the Coosa goal all night."
Jacob Robinson had seven saves for Ridgeland (1-0), who will host its first Region 6-AAAA match of the year next Tuesday (Feb. 13). The opponent will be Southeast Whitfield, the 2017 Class 4A state champions.
