Cheered on by a good home crowd, the Oakwood Christian Academy Eagles fought to a 2-2 tie with Rhea County Academy this past Friday night in Chickamauga.
The Warriors took the lead 15 minutes into the contest, but OCA would knot things up later in the half as freshman Caleb Epperson found the upper right hand corner of the net from 10 yards out.
RCA regained the lead early in the second half, but once again the Eagles would answer. Chase Lanham connected on the equalizer from just outside the 18-yard line.
“Our midfield and defense complimented our play with an amazing display of ‘never give up attitude’,” head coach Tony Vona said. “The whole team played as a complete unit. This by far is the best effort our high school team has ever displayed. A 2-2 draw against a team of that caliber and quality speaks to (our) attitude of ‘closing the gap’.”
Keeper Garrison Baggett helped preserve the tie with several outstanding saves in crucial moments of the match.
