The LaFayette High School JROTC Rifle Team faced Gordon Central and Cherokee in a an Area 10 shootout at Cass High School on Saturday and returned home with a pair of wins.
LaFayette picked up a 1,130-1,103 win over Cherokee. Emma Sargeant led the way with a 292 out of a possible 300, which also qualified her for the GHSA State Championship at Fort Benning later this spring.
Alyssa Kiser had a 289 for LaFayette, followed by Steven Thompson (278) and Logan Massingill (271). Two more first-season shooters, freshman Christopher Franklin and sophomore Alaina Shults, had a 255 and a 252, respectively.
Against Gordon Central, Sargeant fired another sparkling 292 to lift the Ramblers to a 1,131-738 victory.
Thompson and Massingill both shot a 280, followed by Kiser with a 279. Another first-season shooter, sophomore Trystan Smith, finished with a 215.
LaFayette is now 3-0 on the season and in first place in the Area 10 standings. They will host Ridgeland's Air Force JROTC this Thursday.
