Ringgold Tigers

The Ringgold Middle School Mat Tigers began the 2017 wrestling season with a pair of victories at Saddle Ridge on Tuesday night.

Ringgold picked up an entertaining 48-33 victory over upstart Chattanooga Valley in the closest match of the night.

The Eagles, winners of the recent Walker County Cup, won the first two matches by pin. Mason Ingle (72 pounds) got the fall over Gage Keener and Christian Duke (78) pinned Eric Jeffery to stake Chattanooga Valley to an early lead.

But Ringgold would come back with four consecutive wins by pin. Hudson Moss (86) got the win over Hunter Martin, Taylor Norris (94) pinned Andrew Chapman, J.D. Harris (100) collected a pin against Tyler Reed and Carter McCann (108) got the win over Camdan Bain.

Chattanooga Valley would respond as Jarred Meyners (115) pinned Ross Norman, Zack Sain (123) pinned Mason Stephens and Jonathan Woodall (130) pinned Landon Eaker.

Ringgold would answer back starting at 140 as Mason Parker earned a decision over Markease Ross. Kori Dumas (150) followed with a pin over Ethan O'Shields and Kyle White (165) and Kaiser Cross (180) each picked up forfeit wins.

Cade Dunn (220) earned a three-point decision for the Eagles over Ashton Clark, but Bo Black would pin Jacob Kline at heavyweight to cap the win for the Tigers. Levi Gunn (165) collected a pin for Ringgold against Easton Byrd in an exhibition match.

Ringgold began their night with a 69-12 victory over the host Mustangs.

The Tigers got a pin from Jeffery (78) over Wyatt Blevins. Harris (100) pinned Ashton Fox. Norman (115) pinned Caleb Buckles. Stephens (123) pinned Josh Hernandez. Dumas (150) pinned Chase Blevins. White (165) pinned Nate Hines. Cross (180) pinned Dakota Catlett and Clark (220) pinned Joseph Ayers.

Moss (86) scored a technical fall over Levi Ledford. McCann (108) earned a major decision over Chesley Williams, while Parker (140) and Black (HWT) both won by forfeit.

Saddle Ridge got a pin by Dalton Griffin (72) against Keener. Aiden Cook (94) earned a decision over Norris and Logan Haynes (130) picked up a decision over Eaker.

The night's final match saw Chattanooga Valley pick up a 63-24 win over Saddle Ridge.

Ingle (72) earned a decision over Jacob Hamilton, while Duke (78) got a pin against Wyatt Blevins to give the Eagles the early advantage.

Saddle Ridge came back to take a 12-9 lead as Ledford (86) pinned Martin and Cook (94) pinned Chapman. However, seven straight wins for the Eagles, all by pin, would swing the match to the Eagles for good.

Reed (100) pinned Fox. Bain (108) pinned Williams. Meyners (115) pinned Hernandez. Sain (123) pinned Buckles. Woodall (130) pinned Haynes. O'Shields (140) pinned Kaden Trejo and Ross (150) pinned Chase Blevins.

Hines (165) got a pin for the Mustangs against Byrd and Catlett (180) received a forfeit victory, but the Eagles would win the final two matches. Dunn (220) got a pinfall over Ayers and Klein (HWT) was given a forfeit.
