The Middle School Mat Trojans traveled to Adairsville on Saturday for the 10-team Adairsville Invitational, an event which featured 18 different weight classes per match instead of the 15 normally used in the North Georgia Athletic Conference.
Gordon Lee finished third overall, defeating Coosa (72-6), Adairsville's "B" team (66-30) and Cartersville (54-43), while they suffered their only loss to South Central Middle School from Bartow County (66-36). They wrestled Adairsville's "A" team in the third-place match and won 54-45.
Kaleb Ray had a big day for the Trojans as he went 5-0 with five pins. Zach Raines, Penn Askew and Dylan Crawford were all 4-1 with four pins. Wyatt McDonald was 5-0 with three forfeits and two pins, while Montgomery Kephart was 4-1 with a pin and three forfeits.
Wil Tumblin was 4-1 with two pins. Dawson Waters had three wins with one pin, as did Gabe Lowe. Hayden Brewer also had three wins with one pin. Nick Bandy, Conner Fine and Tanner Wilson had two pins each. Cooper Jones won two matches by forfeit and Zane Murdock picked up one win by decision. Jack Lowery also wrestled for the Trojans.
