For the first time, Chattanooga Valley Middle School will add a wrestling trophy to their case.
The Eagles bested four other teams to win the season-opening Walker County Cup at Saddle Ridge on Saturday.
Chattanooga Valley went 4-0, collecting wins over Gordon Lee (46-42), LaFayette (57-24), Rossville (60-30) and Saddle Ridge (54-30) to earn the championship.
Zack Sain, Jonathan Woodall, Cade Dunn and Jacob Klein each went 4-0 on the day, while Mason Ingle went 3-0. Jarred Meyners and Carson Middleton were each 2-0, while Sam Dickson was 1-0.
Also taking to the mat for the Eagles were Tyler Reed (2-1), Camden Bain (2-1), Andrew Chapman (2-2), Elijah O’Shields (2-2), Caleb Woody (1-2), Christian Duke (1-3), James Gowan (1-3), Levi Millsaps (0-3) and Easton Byrd (0-3). Jesse Dunwoody went 2-0 in exhibition matches, while Connor Stevens was 1-0.
Saddle Ridge finishes 0-3-1
The Mustangs lost three matches on Saturday, but salvaged a 42-42 tie with LaFayette.
Levi Ledford (86 pounds), Aiden Cook (94), Chesley Williams (108) and Christian Tompkins (HWT) all won by pin. Jacob Hamilton (72), Dakota Catlett (165) and Joseph Ayers (220) all won by forfeit, while Trey Parrish and Joseph Ayers both won by pins in exhibition matches.
Saddle Ridge lost a 60-30 decision to Gordon Lee. Earning pins for the Mustangs were Ledford, Cook, Josh Hernandez (115) and Nate Hines (165).
The Mustangs loss to Rossville, 48-36. Cook, Hernandez (123), Chase Blevins (150), Catlett (165) and Tompkins (220) won by pin. In exhibition matches, Ledford scored a pinfall, as did Ayers (220) and Parrish (115).
Against the Eagles, Ledford, Cook, Blevins, Hines and Catlett won by pin, while Williams earned a decision.
