The Saddle Ridge Lady Mustangs opened their home slate with a solid 3-1 victory over Trion on Monday behind a pair of goals from Zoe Haggard.
Haggard scored in the fifth minute and added her second goal five minutes later. Mykeria Johnson netted her first goal of the season in the 12th minute for the Navy-and-Red (1-0) and the defense took over from their, as Winter Johnson, Alyssa Gary and Madison Todd led the charge, according to head coach Susan Key.
Key added that they entire team played an exceptional game.
In the boys' match, the Mustangs fought through the soggy turf to pull out a 2-0 win in a non-conference contest.
Jacob Hamilton got Saddle Ridge (1-0) on the board, putting home a corner kick off the foot of Levi Ledford, while Kevin Kremb scored late to seal the victory.
A young defense stepped up to record the shutout, helping keeper Lake Johnson earn the clean sheet.
"Overall, it was a great way to start the season," head coach Ben Scoggins said. "There was a lot of very impressive play from all of our young players, and we are very excited to see what this team is going to do this season."
