The LaFayette Middle School Ramblers fought through extremely soggy field conditions and put a damper on the night for the Dade Wolverines with a 6-0 victory in their home and season soccer opener Monday night.
Haidon Pickard picked up the hat trick for the Ramblers (1-0), while Austin Deering and Caden Hinton each found the net once. Daniel Lopez also scored for LaFayette on a penalty kick.
Hayden Rainwater had two saves in goal, while head coach Chase Horne listed Carter Golden and Joey Durham has defensive standouts.
In the girls' game, Haley Fisher scored the lone goal in the second half for the Lady Ramblers in a 1-1 tie with the Lady Wolverines.
Dade County scored late to tie the game and nearly won it on the final shot of the game. But defender Alex Wysong made a great hustle play to prevent the ball from going over the line to preserve the tie.
Laney Rayburn had four saves in the goal for the Lady Ramblers (0-0-1), while head coach Marlena Lawrence praised Shelby Madden and Alli Peterson for their work on defense.
The games did not count in the NGAC standings.
