For almost one half on Thursday, Saddle Ridge looked as if they just might spoil Homecoming for the LaFayette Ramblers. But a late first-half touchdown would be the spark the Orange-and-Black needed as they would go on to a 37-0 victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, LaFayette (4-1) got on the board just seconds into the second period on a 4-yard Jaylon Ramsey run. Cade Fisher would run in the conversion to put the home team up 8-0.
But the Mustangs would threaten in the closing moments of the half, driving deep into LaFayette territory. However, LaFayette's Ross Martin would scoop up a Saddle Ridge fumble with less than two minutes remaining and the Ramblers would quickly go back to work.
Ramsey would score his second TD of the night with just 54 ticks left on the clock and he would catch a conversion pass from Fisher to make it 16-0 at intermission.
Dawson Pendergrass would plow in from a yard out just 13 seconds in the third and then add the conversion to make it 24-0. Ramsey would get the hat trick with 46 seconds left in the period, scoring from 65 yards out as Hayden Rainwater booted the extra point. Austin Tucker would add the final six points on a 6-yard run on the game's final play.
Ramsey racked up 186 yards on just seven carries, while Pendergrass rushed seven times for 28 yards.
On defense, Martin and Jacob Moses each had 11 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Tucker also recorded 11 tackles, while Fisher picked off a Saddle Ridge pass.
LaFayette will play at make-up game at Dade County on Monday before a showdown at Ringgold on Thursday. The Mustangs (0-6) will close out the season at home against Gordon Lee on Thursday.
