The LaFayette Middle School Ramblers prepped for Thursday's big showdown at unbeaten Ringgold with a 34-14 win at Dade County Monday afternoon. The game was a make-up game for a rained out date earlier this season.
LaFayette got on the board first with a 20-yard Jaylon Ramsey touchdown run midway through the first quarter. The Wolverines countered by driving all the way to the LaFayette 5-yard line, but the Rambler defense held and forced a turnover on downs.
One play later, Ramsey burst through the Dade defense on a 95-yard TD gallop and Cade Fisher hit Jacob Zwiger on the two-point conversion pass to make the score 14-0. Ramsey added a 59-yard punt return late in the half to give LaFayette a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Ramblers would add two more touchdowns in the third quarter, one on a 5-yard run by Ramsey and the other on a 1-yard run by Austin Tucker. Dawson Pendergrass added a two-point catch from kicker Hayden Rainwater following a bad snap on a point after attempt as the lead grew to 34-0.
Dade County would score the final two touchdowns late in the third quarter and halfway through the fourth.
Ramsey needed just nine carries to cover 218 yards, while Jacob Moses anchored the defense with 15 tackles. Tucker had 13 tackles, while Ross Martin came up with 10 stops. Fisher added an interception on defense.
LaFayette will take a 5-1 record into Thursday's game with the 6-0 Tigers.
