Two former Gordon Lee Lady Trojan softball players were among those Shorter University student-athletes recognized by the Gulf South Conference as part of its final installment of the FireSeeds All-Academic and Honor Roll for the 2016-17 academic year.

Sophomore Tiffany Holland made the list with a 4.0 GPA in Accounting, while senior Kalei Kimbrell had a 3.863 GPA in Early Childhood Education.

Shorter was well represented, placing a total of 93 students on the GSC’s Honor Roll and eight to their respective All-Academic Teams. Three teams were represented on All-Academic rosters with two each from men’s and women’s track & field, and four to the women’s lacrosse list.

On the honor roll, both softball (19) and women’s tennis (8) placed all eligible roster members to the list. Baseball had 24 recognized, women’s lacrosse had 12, women’s track & field placed 10 to the list, men’s track and field garnered seven honorees, golf added seven - four women and three men - and men’s tennis tallied six.

For the year, Shorter has seen 198 student-athletes recognized on the Honor Roll, and 13 garner All-Academic accolades.

To be eligible for All-Academic team honors, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and cannot be a freshman or first year transfer; other factors include leadership, service and extracurricular involvement.

The members are then selected based on a conference-wide vote by the league’s Sports Information Directors or Faculty Athletic Representatives. There is no vote for Honor Roll honorees; all students with a 3.0 or better that have competed against outside competition are recognized.
