Two teams expected to challenge for the state championship in their respective classifications met at the LaFayette Golf Course on Tuesday with the LaFayette Ramblers scoring a 153-168 win over Gordon Lee in a nine-hole match.
Carter Grant shot an even-par 36, followed by Gage Smith with a 1-over 37. A pair of 40's by Riley Grant and Mason Cain rounded out the team score. Tyler Jackson (42) and Scott Smith (47) also played the LaFayette varsity.
The Trojans were paced by a 39 from Tucker Windham. Jacob Carlock shot a 40, while Gray Weldon's 41 and Christian Boyd's 48 completed the team score. Also playing for the Trojans were Cole Walker (53) and Greg Mullis (61).
LaFayette also fielded a JV team on Tuesday, which carded a 206. Jon Durham (47), Josh Bettis (48), Kyle Moore (53) and Riley Mitchell (58) filled out the roster.
The girls' varsity match saw last year's Class A Public School state co-champions score a 132-156 victory.
Macall Miller led the way with a 40 for Gordon Lee, followed by a 42 from Jessica Hickman and a 50 from Emma Cate Dendy.
Maci Johnson paced LaFayette with a 48. Hannah Bowman shot a 52 and Shelby Whittle carded a 56.
