Georgia Northwestern Bobcats

Georgia Northwestern golf coach Eddie Jackson has announced that the Bobcats have added a 36-hole match against the Mustangs from Northeast Alabama Community College.

The match will be played at the LaFayette (Ga.) Golf Course, starting at 9 a.m. on Oct. 4.

It will serve as a final tune-up before the Bobcats head to State College, Pa. for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships, which will be held on the Penn State University Blue Course, Oct. 9-10.

The USCAA recently released its golf statistical rankings and the five-man, all-freshman Georgia Northwestern squad is ranked fifth out of 21 teams nationwide with a team scoring average of 318.4. The Bobcats have currently played five (18-hole) rounds this season.

The University of Dallas (Tex.) is first at 291.3, followed by The Apprentice School (Va.) at 310.7, SUNY-Delhi (N.Y.) at 312.2 and Cleary University (Mich.) at 315.4.

This will be Georgia Northwestern's first appearance in the USCAA National Championships, having joined the organization in January 2016.

Last year, Bluefield State (W.Va.) won the USCAA men's team title with a 36-hole score of 612, followed by SUNY-Canton (623) and Cleary University (628). Kevin Kim of Berea College (Ky.) finished at 1-under par to win the individual title by three strokes.

It will be the first national tournament appearance for the Bobcats since 2016. Georgia Northwestern was third at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Championships in 2015 and runner-up in 2016. The program was on hiatus following the end of the 2016 national tournament.
