Ridgeland's Lady Panthers hung tough with the Lady Canes of Cartersville for three quarters on Thursday, but faded away over the final eight minutes and lost a 46-33 decision at the Sonoraville Christmas Tournament in Calhoun.
Cartersville led 10-7 at the end of the first period, but Ridgeland would go on an 8-0 run in the first 3:45 of the second quarter to take a 15-10 lead.
However, they would give up a 9-0 run to Cartersville to end the half and went into the locker room trailing 19-15.
The Lady Canes stretched their advantage out to eight points late in the third, but Makenzie Howard would drain a 3-pointer from the wing with less than a minute to play in the period, cutting Cartersville's lead down to 33-28 as the fourth quarter was set to begin.
However, the Lady Panthers never got any closer. Cartersville hit a 3-pointer just seconds after the final quarter began and they slowly pulled away, limiting Ridgeland to just five points in the final period.
Cio Seigler had 13 points and connected on three 3-pointers as she led Cartersville in scoring.
Brylee Dunn had 13 for Ridgeland and completed a triple-double with 10 rebounds and 10 blocks. D'Erika Ervin connected on two 3-pointers and finished with eight points, while Howard added six points.
The Lady Panthers (2-8 overall) will conclude the tournament on Friday night against the host Lady Phoenix. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
