Tied at 21 apiece midway through the fourth quarter on Friday night, the LFO Warriors saw visiting Adairsville score two touchdowns in the final 7:19 to claim a 34-21 victory in the Region 6-AAA playoffs.
The win puts the Tigers (6-4) into the Class AAA state tournament, while the Warriors who were looking for their first state tournament berth since 2009, saw their season come to a close with a 5-5 overall record.
LFO jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 5:53 left in the opening period as Nathan Williams bulled his way into the endzone from a yard out and Bailey Goins booted the first of three extra points.
But less than a minute later, Travon Branch broke off an 80-yard TD scamper to get the Tigers on the board. The extra point, however, was no good, keeping the Warriors in front by one.
LFO's lead would only last a little more than a minute longer as Adairsville's next possession ended with a Mason Boswell 2-yard touchdown and Josh Honea's kick gave the Tigers a 14-7 with 3:54 left in the first quarter.
Boswell tacked on a 31-yard scoring run with 1:54 left in the half to extend Adairsville's lead, but on the final play of the half, Ruddy Ware caught a 2-yard TD pass from Zach Vaughn, cutting the Tigers' lead down to 21-14 at the break.
The Warriors would strike again with 3:36 left in the third as Vaughn called his own number from a yard out and Goins' kick knotted the score.
However, Adairsville would prove to be too much down the stretch. Boswell's third TD run of the night, this one from four yards out, gave the Green-and-Gold the lead for good with 7:19 to go and Daylon Bailey delivered the dagger on a 7-yard run with 1:31 to play.
Adairsville gained 379 of its 465 total yards on the ground and picked up 29 first downs. Boswell collected 187 yards on the night.
LFO had 25 first downs, but had just 292 total yards. Williams was again a workhorse, adding 211 more yards rushing to his resume, giving him 1,239 to end his junior season.
