Former Ringgold High School star athlete Slade Dale has been named the most recent Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Offensive Player of the Week after quarterbacking the Berry College Vikings to a 28-14 win over LaGrange (Ga.) this past Saturday.
Dale was an efficient 12-of-16 in the air for 172 yards and three TD passes to go with one rushing touchdown on 10 carries and 88 yards on the ground. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound junior has guided the Vikings to a 2-0 start this season.
For the season, Dale is 26-of-37 for 317 yards and five total touchdowns with no interceptions. He was 14-of-21 for 145 yards and two scores in a 30-24 season-opening win over Maryville (Tenn.). He has also run 20 times this season for 110 yards and a score.
In 2016, Dale played in all 10 games for Berry. He broke the single season rushing record with 660 yards (on 100 carries) and two scores. He threw for 1,348 yards (98-of-164) with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Dale was also named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll.
Dale also plays baseball for the Vikings. In 88 games covering the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he batted .324 with 21 doubles, 70 runs scored, 71 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
While at Ringgold, he was a two-time All-State quarterback and led the Tigers to the 2013 Class AAA state semifinals.
The Vikings will face Rhodes College this Saturday at Valhalla Stadium in Rome for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
