Tis' the season for football awards.
Region 6-AAAA announced its All-Region teams earlier in the month and now Region 6-AAA and Region 6-A North have followed suit.
A number of players from Ringgold and LFO earned all-star status in 6-AAA.
Ringgold had four selections on the first team offense with junior quarterback Cole Kibler, junior wide receiver Andre Tarver, senior tight end Drake Starks and senior offensive lineman Bucky Williams.
LFO was represented on the first team by senior offensive lineman Nick Culpepper, senior linebacker Drew Woodard and junior punter Charlie Harless.
On the second team, the Tigers placed junior wideout Pete Brower, sophomore offensive lineman Reid Williams and senior linebacker Noah Keaton. Tarver was named second team at linebacker.
The Warriors had four players on the second team, including junior wide receiver Ruddy Ware, senior offensive lineman Tyler Simpson, senior defensive lineman Johnathan Cutcher, senior defensive lineman Kameron Peters and junior defensive back Christian Vaughn. LFO senior quarterback Zach Vaughn was named as an athlete.
Ringgold honorable mention picks were sophomore wide receiver Dylan Wright, senior offensive lineman Sam Akers, junior defensive linemen Garrison Rhudy and Cade Nayadley, junior linebackers Brower and Dalton Green, junior defensive back Blake Goldsmith and sophomore defensive back Brayden Broome.
Class AAA state champion Calhoun swept the region's top two awards.
Junior quarterback Gavin Gray was the Offensive Player of the Year after completing 235-of-369 passes for 3,358 yards and 32 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Senior linebacker Bailey Lester was the Defensive Player of the Year after recording 124 tackles, 15 for loss, plus 12 sacks and one fumble recovery.
Senior running back Braden Jarvis was first team for Gordon Lee on the Region 6-A North glitter squad. Second team honorees included senior tight end Patrick Howard, junior wide receiver Hunter Hodson, senior offensive linemen Caleb Vines and C.J. Thomas, junior defensive lineman Cordell Langford and sophomore defensive back Tucker Miller.
Mt. Zion senior athlete C.J. Ackles was the subregion's Player of the Year. Darlington senior running back Tijai Whatley was the Offensive Player of the Year, while Trion senior linebacker Logan Blevins was the Defensive Player of the Year. Mt. Zion's Brad Gordon and North Cobb Christian's Mark Hollers shared Coach of the Year honors.
Recruit Georgia names All-State teams
The RecruitGeorgia.com website has also released its All-State teams for each classification in the state.
Five players from the Catoosa-Walker County area made the Class AAAA team. Heritage senior Luke Grant was named as a wide receiver, joining Ridgeland junior offensive lineman Fred Norman, Heritage senior linebacker Zaine Burton, Ridgeland senior defensive back Markeith Montgomery and Heritage senior return man Ryan Carter.
On the Class AAA squad, Ringgold saw Bucky Williams named as an offensive lineman, while Tarver was named as a defensive back.
The Catoosa County News and Walker County Messenger will release its Dream Teams and Players of the Year in the next few weeks.
