The LaFayette Ramblers, a team expected to have another outstanding season, got off to a good start with a 78-43 home victory over the Bowdon Red Devils Tuesday night at Dan Priest Gymnasium.
The Ramblers stormed out of the gates with a 24-point first quarter. They would extend their lead to 37-18 by halftime, thanks in part to senior Jon Morgan. Morgan had 16 first-half points, including four 3-pointers. Three of those came in the first quarter.
Another 28-point explosion in the third quarter would give the Ramblers a 30-point advantage at 65-35 and forced the fourth quarter to be shortened to just six minutes.
Morgan finished the night with five 3-pointers and 23 total points to go with 10 rebounds. Alex Kelehear scored 12 of his 18 in the third quarter and added six assists, while Dee Southern ended his game with 14 points and 16 rebounds, 10 coming on the offensive glass. Andrew Pendergrass had a solid night with seven points, seven boards and four assists.
The next game for the Ramblers (1-0) will be their Region 6-AAAA opener at Pickens on Nov. 28.
