It was a tough Saturday for three local teams in the first round of the GHSA state basketball tournament as Ringgold, Ridgeland and Heritage all went down to defeat against state-ranked squads.

The Tigers saw a 19-7 season come to a close with a 60-40 loss at Region 5 champion Cedar Grove in the opening round of the Class 3A tournament.

Logan Hullender had 24 points in defeat, but was the only Tiger in double figures. Chandler Chastain finished with seven points, followed by Ammon Murphy with five. Cade Nayadley and Blake Goldsmith ended the night with two points apiece.

In the Class 4A tournament, the Generals ended their season with a 73-35 loss at Region 5 runner-up Cartersville. The Canes stormed out to a 43-15 lead at the break and were never threatened as Heritage finished the year 15-13.

Cole Wilcox had nine points, while Will Allen and Luke Grant each added seven.

Meanwhile, Ridgeland got 18 points from Fred Norman, but it was not quite enough against Region 5 champion Sandy Creek, who coasted to a 101-43 victory. The Fighting Patriots led 46-18 at the break and added 35 additional points in the third quarter alone.

Christian Battle had seven points, while Nathan Carver finished with six points on two 3-pointers as the Panthers ended their season with a 6-19 mark.
