The Oakwood Christian Eagles and Lady Eagles ran into a couple of tough opponents on Monday night as they dropped non-conference games to the visiting Chattanooga Patriots.
In the girls game, the Lady Patriots controlled the action from the outset, turning a 14-3 first-quarter lead into a 29-8 advantage of halftime en route to a 50-24 victory.
Freshman Grayson Broadrick had a solid game in defeat for the Lady Eagles (11-5). She finished with 13 points, including four 3-pointers, while blocking two shots. Annika Green was limited to just three points, but added nine rebounds and four blocks.
Anslee Tucker, Mary Ownby, Lily Green and Madi Phillips each finished with two points, while Ownby collected two steals.
In the boys' game, the Patriots slowly begin to distance themselves in the second quarter and would eventually pull away from the Eagles for 63-49 win.
After a fairly close first quarter, active hands on defense by the Patriots allowed them to get out to a 38-22 lead at intermission and the visitors from the Scenic City with increased the lead to 20 with 3:25 left in the third quarter.
Down 55-35 to begin the fourth, Oakwood attempted to get back in the ball game. Steals and subsequent lay-ups by Garrison Baggett and J.J. Lanham, plus a three-point play by Baggett, would cut into the lead. However, the Patriots would run clock for the majority of the final period and OCA would never get closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Woody Haas had 13 points to pace the Eagles (3-13). Baggett finished with 12 points. Andrew Phillips dropped in eight and Taylor Epperson finished with six.
Oakwood's scheduled games at Apostolic of Knoxville on Tuesday have been cancelled.
