LaFayette Ramblers

The LaFayette Ramblers and Lady Ramblers both scored Region 6-AAAA home victories over Southeast Whitfield on Friday.

In the boys' game, LaFayette (6-0, 5-0) found itself in foul trouble in both halves, but used a big fourth quarter and some late free throws to pull away and defeat the Raiders, 46-33.

Alex Kelehear had 11 points to pace the Ramblers. Andrew Pendergrass added 10 points. Dee Southern and Jon Morgan each had nine points with Southern pulling down a season-high 18 rebounds. Stone Graham rounded out the scoring with seven points.

The Lady Ramblers improved to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in region play with a dominating 50-22 victory.

LaFayette led nearly wire-to-wire, taking a 23-14 lead at intermission and holding Southeast to just eight points in the second half.

Latyah Barber had 19 points, eight steals and six rebounds, while Grace Hamilton added eight points, including a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers, to go with five rebounds and three blocked shots.

Marquila Howell had eight points, eight rebounds and three steals. Ashton Stalling connected on a 3-pointer and finished with five total points. Nicky Yancy picked up five points, five rebounds and had five of LaFayette's 21 total steals.

"To say that I am proud of this win is an understatement," head coach Holly Rhudy said of her team's first region victory in more than a year. "I will always remember this first region win."

LaFayette will host Trion in non-region games on Saturday.
