LaFayette Ramblers

Less than 24 hours after a comeback victory at Southeast Whitfield, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers were back on the court on Saturday afternoon. This time, however, they were at home as they faced region and Walker County rival Ridgeland.

And when the final horn had sounded, the Lady Ramblers' winning streak was extended to two with a 62-53 victory.

LaFayette (4-16, 3-8) led wire to wire. They took a one-point lead after the first quarter and extended it to 11, 33-22, by halftime. They led by eight to begin the fourth, but used a 20-point final period to put the game away.

Two Lady Ramblers finished with double-doubles. LaTyah Barber had 18 points and 14 rebounds to go with four assists, while Marquila Howell had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Nicky Yancy had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. S.J. Oxford had nine points, as did Emily Redden, who also chipped in with three assists.

LaFayette also helped itself out at the charity stripe, going 24-of-36 for the game.

Brylee Dunn had 21 points for the Lady Panthers (4-17, 3-8) D'Erika Ervin finished with 14 points and Hailey Bryant added seven.

The boys' game turned out to be a much closer contest then the matchup just over a week ago.

LaFayette led 35-29 at halftime and hung on for a 52-44 victory. The win moved the Ramblers to 21-1 overall and gave them a perfect 11-0 record in region play.

With just one game remaining on the schedule, the Ramblers have clinched the top seed for next month's 6-AAAA tournament at Southeast Whitfield. With the top seed also comes an automatic berth into the tournament semifinals, meaning the Ramblers are also guaranteed a spot in the Class 4A state tournament.

Alex Kelehear finished with two 3-pointers and went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line, including 8-of-8 in the fourth quarter, to score a game-high 21 points. Tyrese Marsh added eight points in the win, while Jon Morgan and Dee Southern had six points apiece.

Fred Norman paced the Panthers (5-15, 3-8) with 17 points. Markeith Montgomery finished with 13 and Nathan Carver picked up six points on a pair of threes.

Ridgeland will play at Heritage on Tuesday to close out its regular season, while LaFayette will host Heritage on Thursday in its regular season finales.
