After a 68-58 overtime win at Temple on Friday night, the Gordon Lee Trojans have opened the Matt Smith era with a 2-0 mark after winning 67-56 at Gordon Central on Saturday afternoon .
Gordon Lee held a narrow 28-27 advantage at halftime, but outscored the Class AA Warriors in the second half, 39-29, to pull away.
Kannen Derryberry had a game-high 26 points and connected on four 3-pointers. Hayden Murphy dropped in nine points, while Justin Wooden and Donnie Dees had seven points apiece.
Gabe Ross scored a team-high 17 for Central.
The Lady Trojans (1-1) weren’t as fortunate as they were outscored 18-4 in the second period en route to a 65-57 setback.
Mercedes Coleman had a huge night for the home team, scoring 11 points in the opening period on her way to 37 points.
Abby Dalton had 23 points for Gordon Lee and connected on four 3-pointers, three coming in the first quarter. Faith Alexander also hit four threes and finished with 18 points. Gracie O’Neal had seven points, while Samantha Belue added six.
Gordon Lee’s next games will be rematches with the Warriors on Nov. 28, this time in Chickamauga. The girls’ varsity game will begin at 6 p.m.
