One night after a fourth quarter comeback against Ringgold, the Gordon Lee Trojans could not come up with a repeat performance against Christian Heritage.
Trojans fell behind early, took a brief lead in the second quarter, but surrendered the lead once more and never got it back in a 70-53 loss to the Lions in a Region 6-A North contest on Friday.
Christian Heritage took a 9-4 lead early in the first quarter, but Gordon Lee continued to chip away and eventually went up 17-16 just 30 seconds into the second quarter. The lead would be exchanged three times in the opening two minutes of the period, but the perimeter shooting of the Lions, specifically from guard Zach Gentry, allowed the visitors from Dalton to forge a 40-31 lead at intermission.
Christian Heritage would extend their lead to 60-47 at the end of the third quarter, although Gordon Lee refuse to give in. They would slice the lead down to 10 early in the fourth, but never got any closer as the Lions pulled away to claim the subregion victory.
Gentry led all scorers with 27 points for the Lions, while 6-foot-7 Christian Koneman added 20 points.
Kannen Derryberry had 15 points to lead a balanced scoring night for the Trojans (6-3, 0-2). Jacob Dyer and Corey Mullins had 10 points apiece, while Hayden Murphy finished with nine.

In the first game of the evening, the Lady Lions took a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed as they handed the Lady Trojans their first subregion loss of the year.
Gordon Lee (4-5, 1-1) would trim the deficit down to 25-22 early in the third quarter, but they would never get closer as the Lady Lions pushed the lead back to eight by the end of the period. They went on to score the first 10 points in the fourth to open up their biggest lead of the game, 44-27, with 4:45 left to play.
Faith Alexander had 11 points in the loss. Gracie O'Neal finished with 10, while Abby Dalton added eight.
The Trojans and Lady Trojans will participate in a holiday tournament at Trion High School on Friday and Saturday of next week.
