The Georgia Northwestern Bobcats led 32-25 at intermission on Tuesday night, but gave up 55 second-half points and dropped an 80-71 decision to the Covenant College junior varsity squad at Barnes Gymnasium atop Lookout Mountain.
GNTC led throughout the first half and through the first 9:30 of the second half. But Will Roden would sink a 3-pointer for the Scots with 10:30 to play to give the home team a 49-46 lead.
Covenant would never trail again.
The Bobcats attempted to rally. They cut it to 63-62 on a Tyler Phillips three with 4:49 remaining, only to see Covenant run the lead back out to seven at 73-66. Four straight points would cut the gap down to four, but the Bobcats would get no closer.
Phillips and Kolbi Suttles had 13 points apiece in the loss. Bryce Waters went for eight points and three steals, while Cole McKeehan and Micah Wheeler had six points each. Wheeler also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Roden had 23 points for the Scots.
Georgia Northwestern (2-6) will travel to Asheville, N.C. on Friday as part of a doubleheader against fellow USCAA member Warren Wilson College.
