A tough season came to an end for the Ridgeland Panthers at home on Thursday night as they lost a doubleheader Region 6-AAAA champion Northwest Whitfield, who swept the three-game series.

Northwest 9, Ridgeland 6

In the opener, the Panthers led 4-0 after scoring four times in the bottom of the first. The Bruins answered to tie the game after the top of the third, but a Tanner Hill solo homer in the fourth put Ridgeland back in front, 6-5, and they would take the one-run lead into the sixth.

However, the Bruins would strike for a four-spot of their own in the top of the inning to regain the lead for good.

Will Hodges finished 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Hill was 2-for-4. Riley Harrison knocked in two runs, while Austin Delay had one RBI.

Northwest 10, Ridgeland 8

The Bruins led 6-2 going into the bottom of the fifth when Ridgeland pushed across four runs to knot the game. But the visitors would score twice in each of the final two innings to reclaim a 10-6 lead.

Ridgeland would plate two in the bottom of the seventh, but got no closer.

Harrison hit a homer and finished with two hits and two RBIs. Ivy Boehm was 1-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice and an RBI, while Dylan Wooten went 2-for-3.

The Panthers (10-16 overall) finished in fifth place in the region standings with a 6-12 record. Four of the losses came by two runs or less to teams that finished above them in the region standings.
