The LFO Warriors were finally able to get their season underway on Tuesday night and returned to Battlefield Parkway with an 8-2 victory on the road at Model.
Mathew Trusley had a solid night with a pair of doubles and an RBI at the plate and five strikeouts on the mound as he picked up the victory. He threw four innings, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, with zero walks. Both runs came in the bottom of the first inning after the Warriors had already staked him to a three-run lead.
LFO would tack on a solo run in the top of the second and two runs in both the third and fourth innings to keep the Blue Devils at bay.
Andrew Brock had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors, while Jackson Herrod had a double and an RBI. Jarrett McAfee knocked in two runs. Brice Donahoo also knocked in a run and, as a team, LFO finished the night with five stolen bases.
The Warriors also got a solid night from its bullpen as Brock, Riley Mosier and Zach Coots combined for three scoreless innings of relief, allowing two total hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
LFO (1-0) will travel to Gordon Lee (1-1) on Wednesday to face the Trojans. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Monday, but had to be postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
The Warriors' home opener will be this Saturday at 12 noon against Chattooga in a doubleheader.
