The Gordon Lee Trojans opened its season in South Georgia by splitting a pair of games at Vidalia High School on Saturday.
The Trojans lost Game 1 to West Laurens, 7-6, but rallied to beat the host Indians, 13-3, in Game 2.
Gordon Lee took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third of the opener, but gave up three in bottom of the inning. The Trojans would tack on one run in the top of the sixth and four in the top of the seventh, but the Raiders responded with four of its own in the final frame to get the win.
Senior catcher Dylan Minghini was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the loss. Caleb Hopkins had two doubles in two official at-bats, while McCain Barbee and Chris Potter each had one RBI.
Jake Wright started on the mound, while Hunter Hodson was saddled with the loss. Gordon Lee hurt itself defensively with six errors.
In Game 2, the Trojans led 1-0 before erupting for eight runs in the top of the third to put the game out of reach. They would add three more in the sixth for insurance.
Minghini was 4-for-4 with two doubles, another homer and two more RBIs. Hopkins was 2-for-3 with a run driven in, while Hodson and Barbee each had three hits. Barbee drove in two runs, while Hodson had a triple and plated a run. Mason Pettigrew was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Freshman Jake Poindexter got the win after starting and throwing three hitless innings with one strikeout. Barbee and Logan Streetman also worked on the hill for the Trojans.
Gordon Lee (1-1) will open their home schedule on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. game against LFO.
