The Gordon Lee Trojans got four more RBIs from senior catcher Dylan Minghini and rallied for a 6-4 win over Class 4A Northwest Whitfield in Tunnel Hill on Thursday.
Northwest led 2-0 after two innings, but two Bruin errors and a McCain Barbee single would set the table for Minghini, who ripped a three-run double to put the Trojans in front, 3-2, in the top of the third.
The Bruins would tie it up with a solo run in the bottom of the sixth, but two more costly errors would help lead to three more Gordon Lee runs in the top of the seventh.
Will Sizemore and Hunter Hodson had singles in the inning and Chris Potter would reach on a two-out error, while the second error allowed Sizemore to scamper home. Minghini would bring home Hodson with an RBI-single and Potter would later trot home on a passed ball.
Mason Pettigrew started on the hill for Gordon Lee and got the win. He threw four innings of one-hit ball, giving up two runs - one earned - with four walks and six strikeouts. Logan Streetman allowed one earned run on four hits in two innings of relief, while Hodson had a 1-2-3 seventh with one strikeout to record the save.
Minghini (2-for-4) now has 11 RBIs in Gordon Lee's first four games, while Sizemore also had two hits for the Trojans (3-1).
Hank Bearden had two RBIs for Northwest (1-3). Ty Fisher threw six innings for the Bruins, giving up three unearned runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts, but got no decision.
Gordon Lee will play at Ringgold on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
