A Rossville man was arrested for aggravated assault in Catoosa County after he allegedly shot another man in the leg during a dispute, police say.

According to Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk, the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Nov. 30, at 104 Mack Smith Road and concluded with the arrest of 40-year-old Sofonias Perez, who resides at the residence.

Perez was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Perez remains in Catoosa County jail with no bond set.

Deputies arrived at the incident location and found the victim, 38-year-old Brandon Eugene Palmer, lying in the yard suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, Sisk said in a press release.

Palmer was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.

"During the investigation, it was found that Mr. Palmer arrived at the residence and a dispute ensued over ownership of property at the residence," Sisk said. "During the dispute, Mr. Perez shot Mr. Palmer in the back of his upper leg. Mr. Perez fled back into his residence and hid the firearm."

Sisk says officers were eventually able to locate the weapon hidden in Perez's attic.
