A LaFayette man was arrested for simple battery after, police say, he beat a man unconscious.

According to LaFayette police reports, on Friday, Aug. 4, shortly after midnight, police responded to a fight at an apartment on Napier Street. When they arrived, they found a man laying unconscious on the floor. The alleged attacker, 26-year-old Bradley Ward Russell, was dumping water on him.

A female resident said she came home from work and Russell began arguing with the children in the residence. This prompted the victim to intervene. Russell then began to strike the victim in the face.

A witness to the scene, Russell's mother, who is dating the victim, told police Russell was trying to get his younger brother to bed, but the child refused.

The victim had a cut on his face and a large cut on his ear. Russell had the victim's blood splattered on his shirt.

Both men appeared to have been drinking, police reported.

Russell was arrested and charged with simple battery.
