Mrs. Doris Ruth Ohst Russell age 76, of LaFayette, GA went home to be with The Lord Monday – October 30, 2017.

She was born in Chickamauga, GA to the late Harold and Bertha Jane Millican Ohst. She was a lifelong resident of the LaFayette area and enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of Gordon Lake Wesleyan Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Sherman Russell, son: David Russell, daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Tim Powell, grandson: Adam Powell, brother: Franklin Ohst.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Donna and Bobby Lang, daughter-in-law: Yvette Russell, sister: JoAnn Stanfield all of LaFayette, GA, brother: Harold Ohst, Jr., of Ringgold, GA, grandchildren: Kelli (Clinton) Gard of Chickamauga, GA, Rebekah Russell of LaFayette, GA, Jessica Simmons, great-grandchildren: Elijah Dobson, Emma Phy, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday morning after 10:00 am until the funeral.

Funeral services: 2:00 pm – Thursday – November 2, 2017 in the chapel with Pastors David Cobb and Jay Neal officiating.

Burial: LaFayette Memory Gardens – LaFayette, Georgia.

Kenneth "Mark" Kissel Gilliland, 54, Chickamauga, Ga.

Kenneth "Mark" Kissel Gilliland, age 54 of Chickamauga, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga and was of the Christian Faith. Mark enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Ellen Barrett Gilliland.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, of 19 yrs., Utacha Gilliland; children, Josh Gilliland, Jody Gilliland, Kenneth Gilliland, and Cheyonna Gilliland; step-daughter, Chasity Elkins; sister, Karin Tittle; grandchildren, Kaimen, Matthew, and Joshua; step-grandchildren, Steven and Nevaeh; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service: 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in Singletary Cemetery.

Visitation: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Richard "Shep" Archer Sr., 73, LaFayette, Ga.

Mr. Richard "Shep" Archer Sr.; 73, of LaFayette, Ga.; passed away surrounded by his family on October 27, 2017.

He was born on September 24, 1944 in Houston, TX to the late Thomas Archer, Sr. and Inez Shepard Archer. He is also preceded in death by two siblings, Tom Archer and Diane Engle.

Shep was raised in LaFayette, GA and just recently moved to Portland, TN within the last few years. He was one of the last descendants of the family of the Archer Drug Store; and was the nephew of the late Dr. Richard Cato Shepard, a prominent physician from the LaFayette community. He married the love of his life, Doris Chapman Archer, on March 19, 1962 and they were married for 55 years; together they had two children, Ricky Archer and Vanessa Jacobs. Shep loved his family and was very passionate about his grandkids. While his son was young, he enjoyed coaching him in baseball. He spent a lot of his time fishing, camping, and just being outside. He was very passionate about his family, nature, and all of God’s creatures. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be truly missed.

Shep is survived by his wife, Doris Archer; two children, Ricky (Candy) Archer and Vanessa (Ron) Jacobs; grandchildren, Zach and Ethan Jacobs, and Alex Osborn; and one sister, Gale Verity.

Sharon Olivia Guffey, 71, East Ridge, Tenn.

Sharon Olivia Guffey, 71, of East Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 in a local hospital.

Sharon was born on November 17, 1945 to the late Lyman and Lillian Murphy and has resided in the East Ridge, Tennessee area for several years. She worked for several years at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga in the Central Sterilization Department as a technician and also attended Payne’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Sharon enjoyed going to yard sales, antique stores, taking short weekend trips and collecting angels and bears. Sharon never met a stranger and was dearly loved by her friends and family. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Howard Mathes.

Survivors include her son, Donald Lee Shirley Jr., sister, Judy (Joe) Osburn, nephews, Chris and Haden Smith, Dale and David Mathes and niece, Missy Smith.
