Ruby Lee Townsend Frye, 90, LaFayette

Ruby Lee Townsend Frye, age 90 of LaFayette, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017. She was born to the late Harvey Franklin and Etta Viola Colbert Townsend in Chickamauga and has been a lifelong resident of the LaFayette and Chickamauga Area. Ruby was a member of North LaFayette Baptist Church and was a loving and dedicated Christian and friend, who will be greatly missed.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin Frye; son, Randy Frye; siblings, Billie Hill and Samuel Townsend.

Ruby is survived by her nieces and nephew, Beverly (Larry) Rhoad, Linda Hill, and Rick (Susan) Townsend; special friends, Judy and LeRoy German; and her loving pet, Snowball.

Funeral service: Noon on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Rick Frazier and Rev. Larry Rhoad officiating.

Burial: LaFayette City Cemetery.

James Earl Mitchell, 74, Lookout Mountain

James Earl Mitchell, 74 of Lookout Mountain, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, July 17, 2017 and was joined by his loving wife of more than 56 years, Linda Ward Mitchell less than 12 hours later.

Mr. Mitchell was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and was of the Baptist faith. He had made a name for himself working most of his life as a Stone Mason. He lived to work, but he also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Melton & Mary Daisy Mitchell and his sister, Annie Thompson.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 56 years, Linda Faye Mitchell who couldn’t stand the thought of living without James another day; children, James "Tim" Mitchell, Terry Mitchell all of Lookout Mountain, GA and Theresa Genter of Ringgold, GA; brother, Tony Mitchell; sisters, Brenda Higdon and Debbie Evans all of Lookout Mountain, GA; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and dear friend, Danny Roberts.

Funeral services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Rev. Cecil Gravitt officiating.

Burial: Mount Olive Cemetery.

Frank Andrew Foss, 46, Cairo, Ga.

Frank Andrew Foss, 46, of Cairo, Ga., passed away at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., on Monday, July 17, 2017.

Mr. Foss was born on May 20, 1971, in St. Petersburg, FL, to the late Frank E. Foss and Janice Copeland Laurence, who survives. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1989. He served his country in the United States Army from 1992 to 2001. On August 18, 2007, he married Michelle Smith Foss, who survives. Frank has lived in Lafayette, GA, Moultrie, GA, and currently in Cairo. He was employed by the Thomas County Tax Assessors Office in the mapping department. He was a former member of the Cornith Baptist Church in Lafayette, GA. He was a devoted Georgia Bulldog Fan.

Survivors include: his wife, Michelle Smith Foss of Cairo, GA; son, Hunter Avery of Cairo, GA; mother, Janice Copeland Laurence of Cairo, GA; sister, Angela Kelley of Moultrie, GA; step-grandmother, Opal Holloway of Canton, GA; uncle, Franklin Copeland of Canton, GA; aunt, Glena Magee (Otis) of Rawson, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family member. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Pastor Gwyn Hayes and Pastor David Avery will officiate.

Burial: With Military Honors, in Sunset Cemetery, Meigs, GA.

Donna Jean Colvard, 54, Ringgold

Mrs. Donna Jean Colvard, 54 of Ringgold, went home to be with her Lord and Savior with her loving family at her side Monday July 10, 2017.

Donna graduated from Dalton State College with an A.A. degree in Medical Assistance to which she played a valued part in advocating the school implementing a program for medical assistant students; she was also a member of the American Association of Medical Assistance. Mrs. Colvard was a Volunteer with the North Georgia crisis center where she focused most of her time with families of domestic violence. Donna had a passion for helping other people and her courageous heart will be forever remembered by all who knew her. Mrs. Colvard was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and was a member of the Nellie Head Baptist in Tunnel Hill.

She is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Homer and Agnes Holmes; maternal grandparents, Jack and Oma Mitchell, niece, Melissa Ball and great nephew, Grayden Whitmore.

Survivors include parents Charles and Doris Holmes husband David Colvard, children Brandi Hughes (Chuck) and Sidney Hullender, siblings, Barbara Holmes Goforth, Donald Holmes(Tami) and Jeffrey Holmes(Elizabeth). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial service: Thursday July 13, 2017 at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel.

Visitation: Wednesday from 6 until 9 pm at the funeral home.
