Betty Miller Puckett, 85, Fort Oglethorpe

Betty Miller Puckett, 85, of Ft Oglethorpe, GA, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 surrounded by her beloved family.

She was preceded death by her husband of 46 years, James Robert Puckett. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Earle Miller, Sr and Mattie Parker Miller, of Tiftonia, Tennessee. Also preceding her in death was one elder sister, Marianne Miller, who passed away at a tender age in Nashville, Tennessee.

Miss Betty as she came to be known was member at Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist since 1955. She taught children’s Sunday School for many years while her daughters were young, then eventually moved to teach the Women’s Sunday School classes, Gleaners, Naomi, T.E.L, Miriam and finally Lydia classes. She was a leader of Girls in Action for a number of years. She was active with the Women’s Missionary Union and Keenagers through her much loved First Baptist family. Betty was a highly successful Avon Sales Representative for 35 years. She reached the President’s Club for record sales each year she worked. She was known as the Avon Lady of Ft Oglethorpe because she went to so many businesses as well as homes for many years.

Betty and her husband, Robert enjoyed many years of doing business as antique dealers and buying and reselling of all types of collectibles and merchandise. They ran a store in Ringgold called the Antique Trader for 10 years, and then began going each year to the long running yard sale on Highway 127. They also did estate sales for families, a job she continued to do on her own after Robert passed away in 1997. Betty and Robert were charter members and leaders of the local chapter of the National Avon Association Collectors Club. They traveled to ten cities across the United States for annual meetings of the Convention of the Collector’s Clubs. Betty was first to volunteer to help any neighbor, friend, family member, or church family member that she felt had a need. Her quick sense of humor and charming wit could bring a smile and laugh to everyone. She loved to share her love of Jesus with anyone.

Betty is survived by her brother, Thomas E Miller, Jr. Also surviving to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Brenda Grammer, (Rick) of Rossville, GA, Virginia Grant, (the late Blaine), of Ft Oglethorpe, GA, Beverly Phillips, (Mike) of Ringgold, GA.
