Robert "Shorty" Sheridan Freeman, 77, Ringgold

Robert "Shorty" Sheridan Freeman, 77, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017.

A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, he was of the Baptist faith. He was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 22 years and was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard Sheridan Freeman Sr. and Minnie Elizabeth Jenkins Freeman; three brothers, Willard Freeman Jr., Richard Freeman, and Rupert Freeman; and two sisters, Ruby Freeman and Evelyn Haire.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Freeman of Ringgold, GA.; three children, Pam (Gary) Lane of Soddy Daisy, TN., Paula (Danny) Forgey of Chattanooga, TN., and Jason Robert Freeman of Ringgold, GA.; sister, Ruth Love of Ringgold, GA.; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Ringgold, Georgia.

Visitation: Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. and Wednesday from 9 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Steve Samuel Gravitt, 73, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Steve Samuel Gravitt, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 in a local hospital.

Steve was born in Lookout Mountain, GA on June 23, 1944 to his late parents Willis Haskell and Gladys Lucille Gravitt. He has lived in Chattanooga for several years.

He retired from North American Royalties Inc. Wheland Foundry in Chattanooga following 37 years of service as Operations Director. Following his retirement he also worked with Cecil Gravitt Construction and later joined his wife in managing her store Encore Consignment Boutique in Riverview. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga and enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, cooking and hosting elaborate parties with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Willis H. Gravitt, Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Sherry Shipley Gravitt; sons Dennis L. Gravitt of Pensacola, FL, Darryl (Cindy) Gravitt of Lookout Mountain, GA; daughters Gisele (Barry) Everette and Gretchen (Jonathan) Tremmier of Lookout Mountain, GA; step-daughters Neely (Anson) Hyde of Signal Mountain, TN and Hayden Crihfield of Atlanta, GA; brother Cecil (Susan) Gravitt and sisters Louise Wilson, Edith Daniel, Helen Miller, Linda Derryberry and Sarah (Tony) Mitchell, all of Lookout Mountain, GA; three aunts and two uncles; ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; and former wife, Sara Clark Gravitt.

Funeral services: 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga with Reverend Brad Whitaker officiating.

Burial: Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Pressly Moore, 85, Chickamauga

Bobby Pressly Moore, 85 of Chickamauga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 24, 2017.

He was born in Statesville, NC to the late William Carl & Beulah Mae Moore, Sr.

He had lived in Statesville, NC for most of his life before moving to the North Georgia area in 1979 and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. He was a SGT in the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Army Reserves after more than 20 years of service. He then went on to work for & retire from Datel Communications after more than 15 years in Shipping & Receiving. Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and was completely devoted to his family and friends, no matter what the cost.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret Proctor and Dorothy Farmer and brother, William Carl Moore, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 59 years, Mary Brown Moore of Chickamauga, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Beth & (Pat) Myers of Rock Spring, GA; 2 grandchildren, Evan Myers and Katie Delich; great grandson, Charlie Delich and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.

Funeral services: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the J. Avery Bryan Chapel with Rev. Terry Burns officiating.

Burial: Will be private.

Visitation: From 1 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Gladys Elaine MacKinnon Staples Rodman, 91, Ringgold

Gladys Elaine MacKinnon Staples Rodman, 91, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Monday July 24, 2017 at her residence.

A native of Quincy, Massachusetts, she has lived in the Ringgold area for the past 38 years and was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Staples; second husband, Lloyd Rodman; parents, John and Elizabeth MacKinnon; son, Ralph “Rusty” Staples; brother, Robert MacKinnon; and sister, Marcia Middleton.

She is survived by five children, Dan (Debbie) Staples of Dennis, MA, Judy (Marty) Griswold of Chattanooga, Mary (Mark) Yates of Chattanooga, Cindi (John) Caroland of Ringgold, and Beverly (David) Forester of Ringgold; five step children, Doris (Toney) Hicks of Chattanooga, Midge Spencer, Evelyn Matthews, Wilma (Charles) Trainor, and Lyle (Pam) Rodman all of Illinois; brother, Jack (Ann) MacKinnon of Quincy, MA.; twenty grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Mason officiating.

Elaine will lie-in-state at the church from noon to 1 P.M. Thursday at the church.

Burial: Lakewood Memory Gardens-South.

Visitation: friends Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
