Barbara Jean Farlett Hamill, 77, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, she was retired from Walmart where she worked for over 10 years and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Ken" David Hamill; father, Homer "Red" Farlett; mother, Willie Mae Brookshire Poteet; step-father, Clarence Poteet; sister, Donna Poteet Byrd; and two brothers, Kenneth Farlett and Ronnie Farlett.

She is survived by two children, Carolyn (Claude) Johnson of Rossville, GA. And Tony (Chomsun) Hamill of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.; two sisters, Sandra (Charles) Miles of Rossville, GA., and Geraldine Poteet of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.’ Two brothers, Lowell (Debbie)Poteet of Chickamauga, GA., and Randy (Rose) Poteet of Nicaragua; three grandchildren, Donnie (Shauna) Altizer, K.T. Hamill and Keith (Amy) Hamill; five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services: 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Anderson Cemetery in Ringgold, GA.

Visitation: Saturday from 3-8 P.M. and Sunday from 9 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

James Carter Montgomery Sr., 83, LaFayette, Ga.

Mr. James Carter Montgomery, Sr. - Age 83, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Montgomery and Roberta McSears Montgomery, sister, JoAnn Montgomery, brothers, Gerry Montgomery and Julius Montgomery, Jr.; three sons, two granddaughters, and one grandson. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, retired from Roper Corporation, and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are his wife of forty-two years, Gwendolyn Joyce Jackson Montgomery; three sons, Samuel Montgomery, Donald (Valerie) Lawrence, and Clifford (Susan) Jackson; three daughters, Vernetta Shropshire, Julia Griffin, and Audrey (Jerry) Bundy; daughters-in-law, Pamela Jackson, Tonya Montgomery; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Vinson, Bessie Montgomery, Mae Pearl Jackson; brothers-in-law, William (Denise) Jackson, Cecil (Gail) Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral service: Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 223 Dunwoody Road, LaFayette, GA. 30728 with Dr. Donald White as Eulogist and Rev. Rheubin M. Taylor, Pastor.

His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday after 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. and at the church one hour before the service.

Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Rites.

Barbara Slaten Turnure, 78, Rossville, Ga.

Barbara Slaten Turnure, 78, of Rossville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 5, 2018 in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Turnure was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 11, 1939 to the late Howard and Mary Slaten and has been a life-long resident of the Chattanooga/North Georgia area. She was a graduate of Rossville High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed working with crafts and will always be remembered as being a sweet, loving person who loved God and her family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Jeanette Ship.

Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Garmon Turnure, son, Jim (Amy) Turnure, grandchildren, Claire Turnure, Katy and Ally Finley, brother, Howard (Sandra) Slaten Jr., and sister, Judy (Larry) Potter.

Graveside service: 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Ray Mabe officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Vivian Hayes, 84, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Vivian Hayes, 84, of Chattanooga left this earth peacefully on Monday, February 05, 2018 at her home surrounded by her daughters.

She had lived most of her life in Chattanooga and retired from Duracell with over 20 years of service. She loved fishing, traveling, and sitting on her front porch socializing with her neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everette Biddy, Sr. and Etta Mae "Mary" Biddy; and brothers, Fred Biddy, Ray Biddy, Earl Biddy, Ernest Biddy, Everette Biddy, Jr., and Clyde Biddy.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol (Mike) Cooper of East Ridge, Bettye White of Chattanooga, and Karen (Kelton) Sawyer of Chattanooga; brother, Leon (Brenda) Biddy of Ft. Oglethorpe; four grandchildren, Johnny Hayes, Billy Ritchey, Jr., Aaron Sawyer, and Amrey Miller; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda Gail Dunn Shook, 66, LaFayette, Ga.

Linda Gail Dunn Shook, age 66 of LaFayette, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of LaFayette and was a member of the LaFayette Church of God of Prophecy. Linda retired in 1999 from the Walker County Board of Education at LaFayette High School after 23 yrs. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, who had a giving heart and enjoyed many days at the Goodwill in LaFayette. Linda will be missed greatly, by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell "Hack" and Martha Lorene Reed Dunn; and brothers, Joe Dunn and Bobby Dunn.

Linda is survived by her husband Henry Shook; children, James Edward (Jodi) Shook and Gail (Brian) Osborn; grandchildren, Tamara Shook, Hunter Osborn, Amanda Dotson, and Valarie Hornung; great grandchildren, Elijah, Gunner and Kaylee; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in the funeral home chapel, with pastor Walkie Walraven officiating.

Interment: Lakewood Memorial Gardens-East.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and prior to the service on Thursday.
