William Harvey Chandler, 66, Chattanooga, Tenn.

William Harvey Chandler, 66, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mr. Chandler was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served during Vietnam and was the recipient of several decorations, including the Purple Heart. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wood working, the Tennessee Vols, cooking, and being in the outdoors. Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Frances Chandler, sisters, Sharon Chandler & JoAnn Westbrook, and brother, James Berry.

Survivors include his three children, James Chandler, Poppy (Wayne) Meece, & Ginger (Mike) Ferguson; grandchildren, Jesse Meece, Melissa (Brett) Bacon, Paul Ferguson, Bailey, Casey, Jack, & Sarah Chandler, Meghan & Blaine Phillips; sister, Margaret Harold; brothers, Kenneth, Tommy, & Jerry Chandler; several nieces and nephews; special dog, Jarhead.

Funeral services: Monday at noon in the South Crest Chapel with Brother Joel Germany officiating.

Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Peggy Jane (Cross) Hughes, 82, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Peggy Jane (Cross) Hughes, 82, of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 18, 2017.

She was a native of Benton, TN and had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area where she was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. Mrs. Hughes loved her family, working on crafts, camping, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret "Sissy" Hammontree; father, Paul "Shine" Cross; mother, Dorothy Cross Cheek; sisters, Barbara "Bobbie" Murray and Virginia "Tootsie" Payne.

Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Franklin Augusta Hughes; son, Billy (Denise) Hammontree; daughters, Tawanna Beck Williams, Maria Hughes Smith, Paula Hughes (Damon) Gladney, and Sharon Hughes Brooks; grandchildren, Serena Hammontree Delgado, Shawn Hammontree, Tashina Williams, Tommy Millsap, Andrew Millsap, Austin Brooks, Riley Brooks, and Zachary Damon Gladney; five great grandchildren; sister, Debbie VanDongen; brother, Paul Cross; and several nieces and nephews.

Jemima Mae Reed Shirley, 97, Ringgold

Jemima Mae Reed Shirley, 97, of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at her residence.

A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, she was a founding member of the Catoosa County Historical Society and was a member of the Boynton United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Griffin Shirley Jr.; son, Alan Phillip Shirley; and parents, Judson and Mae Belle Stroup Reed. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Griff and Dawn Shirley of Ringgold, GA.; grandson, Alan Griffin Shirley; caretaker and friend, Carolyn Tinsley, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.

Burial: Dailey Hills Cemetery.

Visitation: 2-4 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Matthew James Daniel, 22, Rossville

Matthew James Daniel, 22, of Rossville, Georgia, gained his angel wings on August 18, 2017. He attended Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School and graduated in 2015. He grew up camping, boating, riding dirt bikes, watching Alabama football and most recently discovered his love of fishing. He was a loving, kindhearted and loyal son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend.

Matt is survived by his parents Kerry and Laura Martin and Brent Daniel, sister, Alli Daniel and nephews Cameron and Jaxson, grandparents Susan Woebbeking and Jim and Carol Daniel.

Opal Naomi Hale, 94 Rossville

Opal Naomi Hale, 94 of Rossville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 16, 2017.

She had lived in the Rossville area for most of her life and was a member of Lakeview First Baptist Church. She worked as a Rosie Riveter during W.W. II and was a member & past Worthy Matron of the Rossville Eastern Star Pocahontas Chapter #165 for over 50 years. She was previously employed with Chattanooga Coin for many years and was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, G.W. & Naomi Kilgore; beloved husband, Roger Fawn Hale, Sr. and 4 brothers & 2 sisters.

Survivors include her children & spouses, Roger "Sonny" & (Elizabeth) Hale, Jr. of Petersburg, VA, Johnny & (Gale) Hale of Rossville, GA, Becky & (Baker) Hyde of Rossville, GA and Rita & (Mark) Brannan of Greeneville, TN; 6 grandchildren, Brad Hyde, Jill Hale Pitts, Danielle Hale, Chase Hale, Haley Brannan and Alexandra Thompson; 2 great grandchildren; special friends, Tom & Sue Gilbert, C.L. & Lynita Brown and Glenda Hibbitt and numerous extended family& friends.

Stanley Lamar Williams, 65, LaFayette

Stanley Lamar Williams, 65 of LaFayette went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 19, 2017.

He was born in LaFayette, Georgia to the late, Hardy G. & Gwendolyn Jewell Williams and was of the Christian faith. He was previously employed with his family business, Williams Slaughter House for many years and enjoyed golfing and spending time with family & friends. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Robinson Williams and brother, Sonny Williams.

Survivors include his children, Tina & (Larry) Thomas and Ginger & (Jason) Kirby all of LaFayette, GA; sisters, Sue & (Stanley) Stephenson and Amy Williams all of LaFayette, GA; brothers, Gary & (Linda) Williams of Atlanta, GA, Greg & (Teresa) Williams and Ricky & (Pam) Williams all of LaFayette, GA; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.
