Mark Steven Parkinson, 65, Rossville, Ga.

It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Steven Parkinson announces his passing on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the age of 65.

Mark had lived in the North Georgia & Chattanooga areas for most of his life and was a faithful member of The Rossville Church of God of Prophecy and its ministries. Throughout his adult life, Mark served his Lord Jesus Christ and was a quietly benevolent steward who took care of those in need as a way to live out his Christian walk. He volunteered for various school system endeavors as well as civic events. Mark graduated from Hixson High School, the University of West Georgia and Chattanooga State Community College. He was a Retired United States Navy Veteran having served more than 25 years of service for his country and also retired from Signal Mountain Cement after more than 30 years of service. He was also a nurse for more than 20 years having worked at Hutcheson Medical Center and then culminating his career as a compassionate Hospice nurse. Mark enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He felt great joy in exploring God’s magnificent creation, sharing that with family and friends was his passion. Mark truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures--chatting with friends and family, serving where needed, fixing things that needed repair, and being with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Beulah Hunerwadel and sister, Patricia Carter.

Mark will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Diana Parkinson & his children, Amy Gass & Jonathan Parkinson all of Rossville, GA; the two brightest stars in his life, his two grandsons, Stephen Thompson & Brayden Gass; loving extended family, mother-in-law, Bethel Coleman; Mary (Todd) Franklin & children; sister-in-law, Kathy (Doug) Ward & children; brothers-in-law, James (Becky) Coleman & children, Ken Carter & children, plus numerous extended family & friends.
