Emily Chapman Henry, 92, LaFayette, Ga.

Emily Chapman Henry passed away on January 26, 2018. She was 92 years old.

Born in Covington, Georgia on October 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Louise Whitehead and Bernie Clifford Chapman and sister of the late Eloise Chapman.

Emily graduated from the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia and then moved to LaFayette in 1946 where she taught Latin and English at LaFayette High School. She met her husband to be, the late Fred B. Henry, at the post office. It was said he knew from the first time he saw her that she was the woman he was going to marry. Fred and Emily married on December 21, 1947 in Covington, Georgia. That was the beginning of a 60-year long marriage filled with love, joy and service.

Emily was always active and on the go. She was an expert seamstress, enjoyed playing bridge, walked regularly, loved entertaining and traveling. She had a large circle of friends with whom she enjoyed a multitude of activities, shared many laughs and with whom she worked shoulder to shoulder in support of many causes important to her. She was dedicated to the LaFayette First United Methodist Church and cherished her adopted town of LaFayette. She could regularly be seen on the city square working to beautify the town. Painting, weeding, planning and designing were all talents she poured into her efforts to make LaFayette a picturesque small town.

Her commitments and energy were appreciated and recognized on many occasions. Emily was one of the early recipients of the Walker County Citizen of the Year award. She received recognition for 50 years of membership in the LaFayette Women’s Club. Mayor Neal Florence proclaimed May 8, 2012 to be Emily Henry Day in recognition of her selfless contributions to the city. She was a loyal supporter and tireless volunteer on behalf of the LaFayette Library as well as The Marsh House. She was a big believer in and supporter of the good works done by The Care Mission.

Emily is survived by three children, Bryant Henry (Nita), Marilyn Taylor (Tom) all of LaFayette and Phil Henry (Sue) of Atlanta. She had four grandchildren, Elissa Lorenzen (Kevin), Jeff Gibson (Allyn), Scott Gibson (Mallory) and Alexander Henry. In addition, she was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Isabel, Eleanor, and Lillian Lorenzen, James and Myers Gibson, Miller and May Gibson.

The family expresses their deep gratitude to the outstanding ladies who loved and cared for her. They are Wendy Bassett, Sue Brown, Betty Chamlee, Sharron Cockrell, Sylvia Horne, Shasta Lowe, Anne Thorne, and Andrea Swafford.

Visitation will be at Wallis Wilbanks Funeral Home Tuesday, January 30 5:00 – 8:00 and the funeral at LaFayette First United Methodist Church Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00. Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jeff Gibson, Scott Gibson, Alexander Henry, Pat Henry, Steve Henry, Kevin Lorenzen, and Jack Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Emily’s memory to the LaFayette First United Methodist Church or The Care Mission in LaFayette.

Dorothy "Dot" Alexander Lee, 85, of LaFayette, Ga.

Dorothy "Dot" Alexander Lee, age 85, of LaFayette passed away Monday, January 29, 2018. Dot was a member of Community Baptist Church in Rock Spring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Ed" Lee; sons, Gary Don Lee and David Lee; grandson, Roger Lee; great grandson, Ethan Payne; and parents, Ben Alexander and Martha Jones Alexander.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Ralph) Russ, Barbara (Richard) Hall, and Karen (Alan) Graham; son, Johnny Lee (Wanda Cooper); nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Billie (James) Lee; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Carol Lee; special friend, Bob Middlebrooks.

Funeral service 3 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Angel officiating.

Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ralph Russ Jr., Charlie Russ, Randall Hayes, Jeremy Lee, Tyler Hatton, Elliott Russ, Gage Smith, Deontay Hayes, and Drew Russ.

Visitation 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Maud Teresa Wiggins Notro age 68, of LaFayette, GA passed away Saturday – January 27, 2018.

She was born in Saint Petersburg, FL and had lived most of her life there. She was of the Baptist faith and had resided in LaFayette for the past ten years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, making flower arrangements and sewing for others.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Vincent Joseph Notro, parents: William Curtis and Katherine Bernice Sherfield Wiggins, brothers-in-law: Douglas Arnold, Jerry Grubbs and Harvey Edge.

She is survived by her children: Tina (Lee) Crabtree of LaFayette, GA Brandon (Christina) McCombs of Seminole, FL, Brennen (Sophie) Moss of New York, sisters: Carol Arnold of Kenneth City, FL, Mary Ann Grubbs of Old Town, FL, Nancy Wiggins of Treasure Island, FL, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life service: Lowell Green Park on Saturday – February 10, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Evylin Eloise Cline Carter age 81, of Decatur, GA passed away Friday – January 26, 2018.

She was born in Chickamauga, GA to the late Joe William and Ida Rachael Carnes Cline. She was a former resident of LaFayette, GA. She was a 1954 graduate of LaFayette High School and was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church for many years. She was a resident of Decatur, GA for sixty-four years, where she retired from Mead Products after many years of service.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Burl Carter, sisters: Myrtle Gaines, Dorothy Parham, Lucille Human, brothers: Leonard Cline and Joe "Bud" Cline.

She is survived by her sisters: Mary Dill (Roy) Lynch of Rock Spring, GA, Sara Cline Orr of Decatur, GA, brother: Sam Cline of LaFayette, GA, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation: Saturday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Memorial service: In the chapel at 3:00 pm – February 3, 2018 with Pastor Damon Perry officiating.

Mike Bearden, 57, East Armuchee Community

Mike Bearden, age 57, of the East Armuchee Community, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Bearden; and father-in-law, Jack Lanier.

Mr. Bearden attended East Armuchee Baptist Church. He loved watching Nascar, and liked to fix things. He loved his family, especially his granddaughter, Lacie.

Survivors include his loving wife, Diane Bearden of the residence; a son and daughter-in-law, Ty and Savanna Bearden of Lafayette; mother, Helen Bearden of Mill Creek; mother-in-law, Pat Lanier of East Armuchee; brother and sister-in-law, James and Darlene Bearden of Varnell; granddaughter, Lacie Bearden; sister-in-law, Vickie Volhein of Dalton; nieces, Haley Volhein, Heather Fielden, and Emily Brown; great niece, Sarah Fielden.

Funeral service: Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at East Armuchee Baptist Church with Rev. David Pruitt officiating.

Visitation: At the funeral home on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
