Rick Townsend, 63, Waleska, Ga.

Rick Townsend, age 63 of Waleska, passed away on Thursday, December 7th at his residence.

Visitation: At Lake Arrowhead Church on Monday, December 11th from 10:15a.m. to 10:45a.m.

Funeral: Monday, December 11th at 11:00a.m. at Lake Arrowhead Church with Rev. Lee Powell officiating.

Interment: Lafayette City Cemetery.

Mr. Townsend began his 42 year career in law enforcement with the FBI. He also served as the Chief of Police for the Auburn Police Department, an investigator with the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Marietta Police Department, and was currently serving as the Chief of Police with the Adairsville Police Department. He was the president of LEEDS for 8 years. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Georgia Command College. Mr. Townsend loved the law. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his wife and kids.

Claudine Mason (Dene) Adkins, 93, Rossville, Ga.

Claudine Mason (Dene) Adkins of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Rossville, GA, passed at the age of 93. She was recovering from a stroke at the Collinsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation at the time of her death on December 2, 2017.

She was born in Blairsville, Georgia on February 1, 1924. She was the daughter of Claude and Inda Mason. She graduated from Blairsville High School, Valedictorian of her class. She then attended Lincoln Memorial University and Harrogate, Tennessee. Mrs. Adkins was married to Thomas E. Adkins on January 2, 1946. During WWII, she was employed at the FBI in Washington, DC, and the B29 Bomber Plant in Marietta, Georgia. Mrs. Adkins assisted her husband in Medical School by typing the study group notes and later helped in his office practice. She was the owner of The Singing Kettle Kitchen Shop in Rossville, Georgia for several years. Mrs. Adkins was long-standing member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Child Development Center, Missionary Ridge Garden Club, and the Walker, Catoosa, Dade County Medical Auxiliary Society. Mrs. Adkins was longtime, faithful member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee and a friend to so many people.

Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Adkins, Father, Claud Mason, Mother, Inda Mason Horne, one brother Jim Mason, two siblings who died in infancy and one son Phil Adkins.

She was survived by sons, Tom (Myra) Adkins of Hixson, Steve (Marcia) Adkins of Fort Payne, AL; grandchildren, Tommy (Kim) Adkins of New Orleans, LA, Mary Adkins of Chattanooga, Christy (Chris) Daniel of Hixson, Jennifer (Mike) Browning of Madison, AL; great-grandchildren, Harper and Avery Daniel of Hixson, Cadewyn Browning of Madison, AL; sisters-in-law, Lois Mason, Betty (Richard) Arnold, Eula Waddell, Avilene Peterman and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: December 6, 2017 from 10:00 AM to noon PM at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, followed by funeral services and noon. Funeral services have been entrusted to Lane Funeral Home – South Crest Chapel in Rossville, Georgia. Her pastor, Dr. Courtney Krueger will be officiating. Nancy Carolyn Taylor, 74, Rossville, Ga.

Nancy Carolyn Taylor, 74, of Rossville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday. December 7, 2017.

She was faithful and dedicated member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle for 30 years. She was a loving wife, mother of four daughters, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Christine Ross; brother, Otha Ross; beloved son-in-law, Leon Hogsed.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Clarence Taylor; four daughters, Nancy Jane Hogsed, Tammy (Brian) Thomason; B. J. (Greg) Jetter; Angerleak (John) Kile; son, Eddie (Kim) Taylor; honorary son, Dr. Scott (Beth) Mitchell; brothers, Leonard Ross, John A. Ross, Sr., Teddy (Connie) Ross; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; several foster children.

Danny "Roscoe" Richard Webb, 71, LaFayette, Ga.

Danny "Roscoe" Richard Webb, age 71, of LaFayette went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, November 30, 2017 after a long and valiant fight with cancer. He fought a good fight and kept the faith.

Roscoe was a 1965 graduate of LaFayette High School and a big fan of Georgia Tech football. He was a member of the LaFayette Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shari Webb Rogers; son, Danny Richard Webb Jr.; parents, Grady Webb and Ruth Smith Webb; brothers, Roger Webb, Grady Webb Jr., and Stanley Burl Webb; sisters, Mabel Starnes and Jo Baker.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gayle Perry Webb; grandchildren, Brody Rogers and Grayson Rogers; sisters, Vickie Scott, Ruby Patterson and Otchie Nicholson; very special friends, Steve and Diana Little; son-in-law, Gary Rogers; his dog, Cooper; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral service: 2 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Josh Edwards officiating.

Nellie Emmaline Bailey, 95, LaFayette, Ga.

Nellie Emmaline Bailey, age 95, of LaFayette passed away Friday, December 1, 2017.

She was a faithful witness of Jehovah and Jesus Christ her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Serena Lou Bailey; father, John William Bailey; and sister, Cynthia Finchum.

She is survived by one niece, Judy Moore of Cowan, Tenn.; and five great nieces and nephews; several cousins in Ala., and Tenn.; and her Spiritual Family here in LaFayette also survive.

Mrs. Barbara Hensley Lowe, 77, Dahlonega, Ga.

Mrs. Barbara Hensley Lowe, age 77, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away Tuesday December 5, 2017 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Lowe was born and raised in LaFayette, Georgia and lived most of her life in Cobb County. She was born on October 10, 1940, to the late Mr. Walter A. Hensley and Mrs. Bertha White Hensley. She was also preceded in death by her husband John E. Lowe, infant daughter Cynthia Renee Lowe, teenage son William Scott Lowe, and her brother James R. Hensley.

Mrs. Lowe was a 1958 graduate of LaFayette High School. She attended North Georgia College and finished there in 1962 with her MRS. Mrs. Lowe and her husband went on to have four children and lived most of their life in Cobb County. In 2001, Mrs. Lowe retired from the Cobb County School System. In her more than 20 years of service, she spent most of her time in the Central Office working with the Special Education Department. During her retirement she was able to sail the Caribbean, visit Europe and travel to the Holy Lands with her beloved pastor the Rev. Johnny Hunt.

Mrs. Lowe was a devout follower of Christ and longtime member of First Baptist Church Woodstock where she sang in the choir and participated in the annual Christmas Pageant. She loved to sing and socialize with the Joyful Women, her ladies Sunday School class. They grew to love each other as sisters in Christ, and remember her as someone who overcame difficult circumstances without ever harboring any bitterness. She was just a sweet lady and caring friend using her experience with hardships to minister to others.

Survivors include her daughter Dr. Susan Sockwell, and son-in-law Dr. Dean Sockwell, Dahlonega; daughter Ms. Elizabeth Berg, Marietta; grandchildren Zachary Kirkman and Ciara Berg, Marietta; Mackenzie Sockwell, Johnny Sockwell and Noah Sockwell, Dahlonega; sister Ms. Jo Hensley and brother Mr. Harold Hensley and Mrs. Frances Hensley, LaFayette; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Lowe was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will always be adored by her family. The verse she leaves us with is from Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." She lived this in her life, and it was a life well lived.

Interment: LaFayette City Cemetery.

Belinda Kay Kinsey, 50, LaFayette, Ga.

Belinda Kay Kinsey, age 50, of LaFayette passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

She is survived by her daughters, Isabel (John) Runninger, Makayla Kinsey and Jericka Kinsey; her dad, Wayne Lucas; boyfriend, Matt Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Archibald Robertson Fortune II (P.D.), 78, LaFayette, Ga.

Archibald Robertson Fortune II (P.D.) age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in LaFayette on Monday, October 23, 2017 after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Archie was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 20, 1939 to Archibald Steele Fortune and Sarah Enloe Fortune. He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

He was a fifth generation hosiery manufacturer, working first with his Father at the LaFayette Hosiery Mill and then as President and CEO of Fortune Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Fortune Cenzalli.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Haley Fortune; daughter, Corinne Elizabeth Fortune of Hanover, New Hampshire; son, Archibald Steele Fortune II (Jennifer) of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Spencer Barnes Bernard and Henry Fortune Bernard of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Nancy Marie Fortune of Marietta, Georgia; sisters, Eddie (Alex) Lowe of Roswell, Georgia, and Sally (Arthur) Berry of Sandy Springs, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick Cenzalli of Anderson, South Carolina, Joan and Dan Frierson of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Judy and Jerry Parichy of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Jim and Margaret Anne Haley of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt and special thanks goes to his devoted caregiver, Jean Jones, and much gratitude for the love and support of Jean, as well as that of Susie Marsh, Jay Jay Adams, and Tanya West and the wonderful and caring staff of Hearth Hospice of Georgia.

James Charles "Chuck" Woody, age 70, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where he was a dedicated deacon. Chuck was an avid fisherman. He was a supportive grandfather to his grandchildren and never missed any of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his father, James William Woody; mother, Beatrice Woody Wilson; brother, Wayne Woody; and sister, Patsy Ann Woody.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Woody of LaFayette; daughter, Carol (Terry) Arnold of Chickamauga; sons, Dale (Terri) Woody of Summerville, Will Woody of Palm Bay, Fla., and Charlie (Jenilee) Woody of Trion; stepdaughters, Michelle (Mark) Harris of LaFayette, Shaunta (Roy) Hambrick, and Bridget (Brian) Lively; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Jerry (B.J.) Woody of Conyers, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
