A LaFayette woman was making her own kind of savings sale when she was caught allegedly switching the price tags on various items at the LaFayette Walmart.

According to LaFayette Police Department reports:

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, around 3:45 p.m., 45-year-old Valerie Kaye Howell was witnessed by Walmart security personnel switching the price tags on several items before heading to the front of the store to check out at the register.

Howell allegedly purchased the items with the altered price tags and attempted to leave the store with other items she did not pay for as well.

Howell placed the stolen items on the lower rack of the shopping cart buggie inside Walmart bags.

Howell was stopped from leaving the store and admitted to switching the price tags.

This is when Walmart security called 911.

Howell was arrested and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and was transported to the Walker County jail without incident.

The items shoplifted totaled $196.20 and all items were recovered.
