A Chickamauga man was arrested after he allegedly choked and held a knife up to his estranged wife.
According to LaFayette Police Department reports:
On Thursday, Feb. 12, at 8:30 a.m., Walker 911 received a call on a domestic situation at a residence off Thornton Street in LaFayette.
Neighbors called emergency to report a man and woman screaming next door, where Stacy Lavon Knight, 40, of Johnson Road in Chickamauga, had returned his 4-year-old child to his estranged wife for a custody swap, and an argument ensued.
Knight reportedly forced his way into the residence and began to fight with his estranged wife.
The female victim said she attempted to call 911, but Knight allegedly kept her from doing so as she continued to try to get him to leave the residence.
Knight allegedly began to choke her and placed a pocketknife to her throat in front of the child.
Shortly before police arrived at the scene following the neighbor’s call to emergency, Knight fled the scene and a “be on the look out” for his vehicle was placed.
Sometime later that day Knight was spotted by Walker County sheriff’s deputies traveling along U.S. Highway 27 at Kay Conley Road in Rock Spring.
Deputies arrested Knight and he was transported to the Walker County jail.
Officers were able to locate and recover the pocketknife the suspect used on the victim during the altercation. The victim was transported to the hospital by a friend and treated for bruises she received when the suspect allegedly tossed her around the residence.
The victim was later released from the hospital.
Knight was charged with aggravated assault, obstructing or hindering persons making an emergency call, and cruelty toward children.
