A Rossville man, armed with a pistol, was arrested in Fort Oglethorpe on Christmas Eve after he allegedly stole multiple items from Walmart, police say.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Teddy Dewayne Gilreath, 43, of State Line Road, was arrested Dec. 24 on charges of shoplifting and possession of a firearm during a crime. He has been released on bond.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. Christmas Eve, when store employees called police claiming a man with several knives and a gun on his belt was attempting to smuggle out merchandise.

Officers waited outside the store's entrance and then ordered him to the ground when he exited with the stolen goods.

Gilreath admitted to taking the items, which consisted of about $114 worth of batteries and flashlights, reports show.

Officers found a Ruger 9-mm pistol on Gilreath, as well as two magazines and ammunition.
