Catoosa County sheriff's detectives are investigating a theft case in which someone stole two large pieces of machinery from a rock pit on U.S. 41 in Ringgold.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department, members of Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Brown Brothers Inc., reported that a Caterpillar skid steer loader and a Caterpillar backhoe were stolen from one of its sites sometime between Sept. 6 and 8.

"The complainant stated unknown parties removed the two pieces of equipment from the chert pit on Highway 41 at the state line," Deputy John Wengert said.

The backhoe and loader are valued at $30,000 and $27,500 respectively, and employees told police they don't know of any possible suspects in the case at this time.

Both pieces of machinery were entered in the National and Georgia Crime Information Center databases.

Anyone with information about the equipment is encouraged to contact the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department at 706-935-2424.
