Mr. and Mrs. George Walton Franklin, Jr. announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Reid Franklin, to Robert Davison Gilbert Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Belfield Howell Carter Jr. of Atlanta.
The wedding is planned for Sept. 19 at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Macon.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Eugene Roberts Sr. of Macon, retired Col. George Walton Franklin Sr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the late Helen Reid Franklin of Warrenton, N.C.
She is a 2001 graduate of Strafford Academy and a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Therta. She is also a graduate of Georgia College and State University, where she earned a master of arts in teaching degree in 2008. She was a 2003 Bons Hommes presentee and is a member of the Junior League of Macon. Franklin, an English teacher at Strafford Academy, will begin teaching in Trinity School in Atlanta in August.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Bob Davidson Gilbert and the late Ethel Stallings Gilbert of LaFayette and Mrs. Jimmie Jean Kelley Carter and the late Belfield Howell Carter, Sr. of Atlanta.
He graduated from the Lovett School in Atlanta in 2000 and attended Clemson University prior to graduating from the University of Georgia in 2005. He is employed as a securities broker with Carter-Terry Inc. of Atlanta and as a real estate broker with CMM Commercial Real Estate, also of Atlanta.
